Aluminum CNC Machining
Aluminum is our most commonly machined material — excellent machinability, strong strength-to-weight ratio, and versatile finishing options for aerospace, automotive, and consumer products.
Alloy Grades & Properties
| Grade | Properties | Applications |
|---|---|---|
| 6061-T6 | Good strength, weldable, corrosion-resistant | Structural parts, brackets, frames, enclosures |
| 7075-T6 | Very high strength, aerospace-grade | Aerospace components, high-stress parts, tooling |
| 6082-T6 | High strength, excellent corrosion resistance | Marine, transportation, structural |
| 2024-T3 | High fatigue strength | Aircraft structures, wing fittings |
| 5052 | Good formability, marine-grade corrosion resistance | Sheet metal, marine components, enclosures |
Machining Tolerances
Standard ±0.05mm · Precision ±0.01mm · High-precision ±0.005mm
Surface Finishing Options
- Type II Anodizing (clear, black, colors)
- Type III Hard Anodizing (up to 60 HRC)
- Alodine / Chem Film (MIL-DTL-5541)
- Bead blasting & sandblasting
- Powder coating
- As-machined (Ra 3.2μm)
Common Applications
- Aerospace structural components
- Automotive brackets and housings
- Electronic enclosures and heat sinks
- Robotics frames and links
- Consumer product housings
DFM & Machining Tips
- Use sharp tools and high spindle speeds to prevent built-up edge
- 6061 is the easiest to machine — ideal for complex 3D features
- 7075 requires rigid setups due to higher cutting forces
- Design radii ≥ 0.5mm internal corners for standard tooling access
Frequently Asked Questions
6061 vs 7075 — which should I choose?
6061 for general structural parts with good corrosion resistance. 7075 when maximum strength is required (aerospace, high-stress). 7075 is harder to machine and more expensive.
What anodizing colors are available?
Clear, black, red, blue, gold, and custom colors for Type II. Type III hard anodize available in clear and black.
Can you weld aluminum parts?
